D.G. began his career as an associate attorney in Greensboro, practicing in the area of family law. There, he provided litigation support in areas of equitable distribution, spousal and child support, and custody cases.
In April, 2000 he received an appointment as Assistant District Attorney for the 14th Judicial District in Durham, where he worked until moving into civil litigation with the firm of Hall, Rodgers & Gaylord. His experience includes literally hundreds of bench and jury trials in the District and Superior Courts of North Carolina, and he is also admitted to practice in the US District Court for the Western, Middle, and Eastern Districts of North Carolina. In addition to trial work, D.G. has briefed cases to and presented oral arguments before the North Carolina Court of Appeals. He also has extensive experience with alternative dispute resolution that includes representing clients in mediations and arbitrations. He has presented seminars to insurance clients on topics of claims handling and litigation in North Carolina.
Born in Madisonville, Kentucky and raised in Kentucky and in Little Rock, Arkansas, D.G. received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Kentucky. He then graduated from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center’s Russian School and served as a decorated non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Corps. After separating from the Army with an honorable discharge, he received his law degree, with honors, from the University of Nebraska College of Law. In law school he was a member of the Allen Moot Court Board and the International Law Moot Court Team.
In addition to practicing law, D.G. enjoys spending time with his son and family, traveling, recharging in the North Carolina mountains, playing music and mountaineering. He has reached the continental high points of Asia, Europe, South America, Antarctica, Africa, as well as climbed other beautiful mountains in the United States and Europe.
